Sound Publishing Inc. seeks a reporter, $1,000 signing bonus

The Juneau Empire, Alaska’s award-winning capital daily, is looking for an experienced, hard-hitting journalist to report on general and state news from the Alaska State Capitol in downtown Juneau. As Alaska’s capital, Juneau sits at the forefront of state government, and covering the Legislature is one of our primary watchdog missions as a newspaper.

Our ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and investigative reporting skills, produce clean copy with a penchant for nailing down the details, and will be able to build and develop sources in a way that leads to unique articles. We want someone who can be the first to break news online, develop a day two story for print, but won’t drop the ball on investigative and enterprising projects along the way.

This Position Requires:

SKILLS:

  • Experience using social media to report the news and promote your work is a must
  • Photography/videography skills are a desirable bonus.
  • Working comfortably and independently in team settings
  • Strong proficiency in AP style
  • The ability to consistently meet the deadline are requirements for this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least two years’ experience at a daily newspaper
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, a related field or equivalent work experience required.
  • Preference will be given to qualified candidates in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest.

Starting wage of $20 per hour and a $1,000 signing bonus!
