Sound Publishing Inc. seeks a general assignment reporter in Oak Harbor

Sound Publishing Inc. is looking for a general assignment reporter to join our award-winning team at the Whidbey News-Times. This position is based out of our Oak Harbor, WA office. The schedule may require evening and/or weekend work.

Responsibilities:

  • We are looking for a team player willing to get involved in the local community through the publication of the twice-weekly newspaper.
  • He or she will have a commitment to community journalism
  • Be able to write everything from briefs about people and events to in-depth stories that examine complex issues facing the community
  • Be able to spot emerging issues and trends
  • Have the ability to write clean, balanced and accurate stories that dig deeper than simple features.

Candidates must:

  • Have a degree in journalism or a related field
  • Have excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Be able to work effectively in a deadline-driven environment
  • Be proficient with AP style
  • In addition, candidates should be organized and self-motivated, exceptional with the public and have the ability to establish a rapport with the community.

We offer an hourly wage of $18.50 per hour
