SmartAsset seeks a personal finance writer

SmartAsset is looking for a Personal Finance Writer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have writing experience (preferably in personal finance, real estate and/or business), a journalism background and a strong sense of pride in always using the correct version of there/their in all copy(!).

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree from a top university
  • Detail-oriented with journalism background strongly preferred
  • Outstanding editing, grammar and online writing skills
  • Experience with data driven and research-heavy articles
  • Able to create well written content in a timely and consistent manner
  • Can take ownership of an article from start to finish
  • Familiar with Content Management Systems like WordPress and SEO best practices
  • Past work in personal finance is a major plus, especially in credit cards, mortgage or retirement/taxes
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
