Posted by Chris Roush

Skift, the best travel business media company on the planet, is seeking a full-time Assistant Managing Editor in its New York City headquarters to help oversee the day-to-day operations of all Skift editorial products, including our daily news coverage, social media, daily and weekly newsletters, and editorial special projects.

The biggest CEOs, CMOs, and senior executives in online travel, hospitality, airlines, destinations, and related travel sectors depend on Skift; we are now “the” lingo in the business of travel.

This new position is a chance for you to work with the best editorial team in ALL of travel, the best boutique media editorial company on the planet (we really are!) and a LinkedIn Best Startup. Your job will be to help decipher and define the future of travel for our audience.

This new position reports to the Managing Editor.

In this role, you will work with Skift reporters and editors based in Skift HQs and around the world.

You should have deep business and/or financial reporting and editing experience, and a demonstrated experience of helping to manage editorial teams and daily workflow. Along with this you should have a good understanding of the macro trends in the business and technology world, and how that should influence and shape our coverage of the business of travel.

THIS IS NOT A WRITING POSITION.

Responsibilities

  • Help to manage and oversee the daily publishing flow of Skift news, enforce deadlines, and own the edit team’s story-assignment budget. This will include line editing and full production of stories.
  • Maintain editorial social media feeds, including Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook. This will include scheduling future posts.
  • Help to prepare daily newsletters — working with other editors — and collaborate on sector newsletters, including those covering airlines, loyalty, meetings, luxury, and more.
  • Assist in coordination of annual Edit projects including print publications (3-4 a year), editorial coverage coming out of Skift Forums (5 a year), and other events.
  • Assist the Managing Editor with the short- and long-term plans for editorial content, including updating and maintaining story budgets.

Requirements

  • NECESSARY: 5-7 years experience in business and financial reporting and editorial management.
  • Demonstrated experience of helping to  manage editorial teams in the past, with leadership abilities.
  • Experience managing and understanding email newsletters is a big plus.
  • Also a plus: a strong interest in the business of travel, restaurants and wellness.
  • Experience working with in-house editorial team as well as freelance contributors.
  • Exceptional writing and copy-editing skills.
  • Proficiency in WordPress, Photoshop, and Google Docs.
  • Excellent judgment, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • The Assistant Managing Editor must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and prioritize.

Compensation is in keeping with experience and is in the $70K-80K range, with benefits on top of it.

Must work in New York City at Skift headquarters.
