The Silicon Valley Business Journal is a daily, digital-first newsroom, with a printed weekly edition that builds on the week’s content to provide a fuller, richer content experience for our audience.
The Digital Producer is the newsroom’s chief operating officer, overseeing the flow of digital content from conception to publishing on all platforms. As the newsroom’s most hands-on manager and coach, the Digital Producer brings ideas, inspiration, and guidance to the content team and directs the deployment of resources across all digital publishing platforms.
Duties
Runs the digital side of the newsroom. Develops, oversees and edits stories Works directly with reporters, steering them toward digital scoops and exclusives In concert with Editor-in-Chief, meets or exceeds audience-engagement goals Orchestrates staff-produced content – images, charts, infographics — and conceptualizes story-telling strategies Manages and prioritizes reporter activities to maximize the results for our audience. Manages and runs the daily news meeting. Regularly participates in and attends Business Journal-sponsored events. Takes on any other assignment made by manager(s). Works cooperatively and collaboratively with all colleagues and sources.
Skills
The Digital Producer must have a solid news sense, an ability to make snap judgments about how stories should be treated, and confidence in multitasking. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of relevant metrics and audience engagement strategies. Like all newsroom staff, the Digital Producer is expected to curate, report and write important content, as well as produce interactive features, galleries and video. The end result should be a rich and vibrant digital experience that engages and serves the Business Journal audience. Comfortable operating in rapidly changing media environment. Strong wordsmith who has demonstrated a talent for reporter and story development. Hands-on experience in guiding and contributing to large-scale editorial projects. Immersion in online environment and social media. Strong management and organizational skills and a consistent communication style, are essential. Exceptional news judgment is a must, as is a clear coaching style and ability to get the best work out of a group of talented reporters.
