St. Louis’ only monthly food publication has an immediate opening for a food writer and critic. This is a full-time position with benefits.
The ideal candidate will be an elegant writer who is obsessed with the area’s dining scene and able to offer intelligent perspectives on the restaurants in town, from mom-and-pop spots to the year’s most anticipated new openings. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable interviewing chefs and restaurateurs, but is also able to offer analysis and insight by dining anonymously.
Tasks will include both weekly restaurant reviews and also reported pieces on the industry and people in it. Knowledge of the St. Louis restaurant scene and the ability to take publication-worthy photos are a definite plus.
Sauce was recently purchased by the owner of the Riverfront Times, an alt-weekly known for its strong coverage of the arts, culture and news in addition to food. We’re seeking a food enthusiast who will be comfortable collaborating with and writing for both publications — and eager to contribute to what will become shared coverage of the area’s dining scene.
Sauce Magazine is now part of Big Lou Holdings, a new St. Louis-based media company. We offer a competitive salary, benefits including health insurance and a 401K and paid time off.
Could you be the journalist we’re looking for? Email a resume, cover letter and three samples of published work to resumes@saucemagazine.com. If you have a few samples of photography to share, we’d love to see those too.
Questions are welcome via email. And to answer something you may be wondering about: Hours are flexible, but you will need to work some evenings due to the need to cover some media previews and also review places that are not open for lunch. We’re also looking for a candidate who’s willing to come into the office a few days each week.
