San Jose Mercury News seeks assistant biz editor

San-Jose-Mercury-NewsThe Bay Area News Group has an opening for an assistant business editor in our San Jose office to help guide the Mercury News’ coverage of Silicon Valley. We are seeking an experienced, creative assigning editor who can lead a talented team of reporters and columnists to produce breaking and enterprise coverage for multiple platforms in the world’s most innovative business market.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate thrives in a competitive 24-7 news cycle that requires team work, priority setting, and a commitment to effectively managing both people and projects. The assistant business editor must be a talented and meticulous line-editor with an innate ability to spot trends and deliver compelling, must-read stories. Energy, flexibility and high journalistic standards are essential characteristics along with along with a bias for action and a deep understanding of traditional and non-traditional approaches to business news.

Minimum requirements: At least 5 years of editing experience working directly with reporters, prior business and/or technology experience and a proven track record of innovation
