San Francisco Business Times seeks health care reporter

The San Francisco Business Times, the premier source of local business in the Bay Area, is seeking a health care innovation reporter to cover one of the largest and most dynamic industries in the region.

The reporter generates a never-ending stream of stories and ideas, spots trends, and finds unique takes on events that affect the business world.

This position drives digital traffic, builds audience with business-oriented and insightful coverage, produces engaging content from topics and storylines, and introduces new subjects and topics through original stories not yet in the spotlight.

This position also includes project managing three editorial projects throughout the year. Two are focused on entrepreneurs and one is focused on LGBTQ issues in the workplace.

Duties

Duties
– Pitch, write and produce timely, highly engaging stories, both original in content and based off developing events/topics, for use on our web site and the reporter’s home page.
– Generate and produce visual storytelling content – slideshows, videos, infographics – for use across digital platforms.
– Be fluent on social media in promoting content, being a thought leader and interacting with readers.
– Contribute and create content for our publication’s special projects, sections and focus reports.
– Pitch, write and produce enterprise stories on a regular basis.
– Take on other duties assigned by the Editor in Chief and Managing Editor as needed.

Skills

-Strong journalism skills, including source building, sharp interviewing techniques, strong analytical and investigative reporting skills, clear writing, document use – and online and social media know-how.

Experience

Experience
At least two years reporting experience at a newspaper or online news site preferred and a bachelor’s degree. Recent graduates must have strong internship or newspaper experience

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
