San Diego Business Journal seeks reporter

The San Diego Business Journal, the region’s premier local business publication, has an immediate opportunity for a reporter who is excited about covering the local economy, including but not limited to the financial, manufacturing and residential real estate sectors. An interest in the business of sports is helpful.

We’re looking for a reporter who will set the standard in this community for finding and reporting the most important stories and trends on these beats. Candidates must be able to demonstrate reporting and writing skills.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter with strong organizational skills who is able to cultivate sources, has strong analytical skills and is able to relate comfortably to a wide range of people, in person, on the phone and online.

The reporter we seek will have a solid understanding of news writing and journalistic ethics, know how to build and leverage relationships with sources to deliver compelling content; and contribute to the planning and production of visuals, from photographs to charts and graphics.

Qualifications: College degree required, journalism or communications-related degree preferred. Experience in business journalism preferred, but a clear passion and aptitude for this niche will ultimately win the job. Candidates from California and Southwest Region preferred.

Contact: Send samples of your work, a resume, salary expectation and a cover letter detailing why you’re a good fit for this position to managing editor Tarcy Connors at tconnors@sdbj.com.
