San Antonio Express-News seeks retail reporter
The award-winning San Antonio Express-News Business section is seeking a reporter to cover the retail and tourism industries in Southwest Texas – some of San Antonio’s biggest economic drivers.
The ideal candidate will have at least a year of experience reporting on business news for a daily print or digital publication and will be able to turn around clean, quick stories in real time for our digital publications as well as long-form enterprise articles for print.
The beat is a busy one that includes local movie theatres, restaurants and major Texas grocery chains, including H-E-B, Whole Foods, along with Lidl, Aldi, Wal-Mart, Natural Grocers and Amazon in nearby Austin, among others. The reporter will also cover the economic indicators gauging the industry’s health.
The tourism beat includes San Antonio’s major theme parks: SeaWorld San Antonio, Six Flags Fiesta as well as the local hotel industry. It also encompasses all of the financial, regulatory, legal and legislative actions affecting local retailers and tourism, including the Texas bathroom bill, the dark stores litigation and immigration issues.
