San Antonio Express-News seeks energy and manufacturing reporter

The San Antonio Express-News is looking for a reporter who hustles for stories and writes in a way that connects with general readers to cover the energy industry and manufacturing.

San Antonio sits just north of the once-booming/now-reviving Eagle Ford Shale play, one of the biggest oil and gas fields in the country; the city’s CPS Energy is one of the largest municipally owned power company in the country, and it’s moving aggressively to clean energy; and San Antonio is home to a Toyota truck plant and related suppliers. There’s a lot of news to break here and a lot of stories to tell general readers about industries that are central to their lives.

Duties:

  • Cultivate a wealth of sources and stay on top of public filings
  • Juggle breaking news, mid-range features and enterprise
  • Collaborate with editors, reporters, the digital team, photographers and graphic artists to produce rich, engaging story packages

Qualifications:

  • Skilled writer and storyteller who would never ever use jargon
  • At least 1-2 years covering energy and/or manufacturing
  • Comfortable using social media to promote her/his work and develop sources
  • BA or BS minimum

How to apply: Send your cover letter, resume and six clips to Business Editor Greg Jefferson at greg.jefferson@express-news.net.
