The San Antonio Express-News has an immediate opportunity for an experienced, ambitious, collegial journalist to serve as deputy editor of the San Antonio Express-News business section.
The successful candidate will have at least 3 to 5 years’ experience in daily journalism as a reporter and editor. Familiarity with staples of business journalism, including corporate earnings reports, economic indexes, Federal Reserve data and SEC filings, is essential. Familiarity with digital publishing rhythms and best practices is also a must.
The deputy business editor will assist the editor in overseeing a staff of 6 reporters, and planning, assigning and editing stories for digital publication, for the daily print business section and for the Sunday print section (known as SA Inc.).
Coverage focuses on the South Texas economy; local and regional companies including USAA, Valero Energy and iHeart Media and their leaders; key local industries including biomedicine, cybersecurity, retail and manufacturing; and economic development efforts by the city of San Antonio and Bexar County.
The successful candidate can work remotely but would be expected to relocate to San Antonio sometime in 2021, depending on the state of the COVID-19 pandemic.
