San Antonio Business JournalThe assistant managing editor of the San Antonio Business Journal functions as the print editor, working with the managing editor, reporters, visual staff and researcher to ensure the quality of the print product.

Duties

Manage, oversee and coordinate print content. This includes assisting the editor and managing editor in producing a lively and rich weekly newspaper that showcases exclusive enterprise content and delved behind the week’s headlines; helping create editorial calendar; participating in and managing production of print copy, including photography and infographics; participating in daily news meetings and weekly story planning sessions; and working with staff to create strong weekly beat pages for reporters. Establish and maintain a production schedule and oversee delivery of content for the weekly print publication so that every deadline is met. Responsible for special sections content. Oversee, manage, assign, edit and write headlines for special sections content. Provide entertaining and engaging sections that meet the needs of the Business Journal audience. Manage the researcher to ensure delivery of comprehensive and accurate list products, meeting all deadlines. Working with the researcher to develop compelling lists packages. Assigning, editing and coordinating stories and infographics for list packages. Identifying and coordinating with freelance writers for print product, including making assignments, editing and ensuring freelance agreements are signed and payments are processed timely.

Skills

Strong communication and collaboration skills required. Ability to manage several tasks. Ability to master and use applications and tools, such as those for creating infographics, Excel, InDesign, etc. Strong news judgment. Editing for content and style.
