Sacramento Business JournalThe Sacramento Business Journal is seeking a digital editor to oversee day-to-day management of its online content, including its website and email newsletters.

The ideal candidate is a journalist who thrives in a breaking-news culture and has demonstrated content programming experience. The primary goal of the digital editor is to craft timely and compelling products that drive loyal engagement, grow audience and extend the Sacramento Business Journal’s brand.

The job requires solid news judgment, strong headline writing skills, the ability to guide reporters and familiarity with SEO and site metrics. The digital editor must balance the highest standards for content with ambitious traffic and engagement objectives.

In addition to working with staff- and user-generated content, the digital editor is expected to curate, edit and write posts and to produce interactive features, galleries and video. The end result should be a rich and vibrant digital experience that serves the Sacramento Business Journal audience, generates user feedback and inspires community interaction.

Working with reporters and other editors, the digital editor will also assist in determining how best to extend and expand online articles for print.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS

  • Strong news judgment
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience in an online news operation
  • Strong headline writing and copy-editing skills
  • Experience as a reporter and the ability to help guide reporters
  • Familiarity with AP Style
  • SEO experience
  • Video production experience a plus
  • The ability to use databases to build interactive elements and features
  • Data entry for content management systems
  • Html skills
  • Excel and/or spreadsheet tools and management
