The Rochester Business Journal, a leading publisher of digital and print content for the business community in Rochester, N.Y., and The Daily Record, a leading publisher of digital and print content for the legal community in Western New York, are looking for an experienced assistant editor to facilitate the production and ensure the high quality standards of the online and print editions of the RBJ and The Daily Record.
The RBJ and The Daily Record’s mission is to guide the conversation for the business and legal community, whether that communication is in person or through digital and print communication. We help recognize business and legal leaders for their accomplishments, provide marketing solutions for our clients and uncover the business and legal news that drives our local economy.
The assistant editor will edit stories for both RBJ and The Daily Record; post stories to the websites of both RBJ and The Daily Record; proof print publications, niche products and partner publications for both RBJ and The Daily Record; compile various content features for both RBJ and The Daily Record; post content to RBJ’s and The Daily Record’s branded social media pages as needed; build and send e-blasts as needed; and other digital and print responsibilities as needed.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong editing, digital photo-cropping and headline-writing skills. Knowledge of SEO is required.
- Ability to use all features of WordPress and to shift seamlessly between different content management systems, whether print or digital. Prior knowledge of WordPress is a plus, but we will train the right candidate.
- Experience with using social media platforms, including posting.
- Experience with Microsoft Office is required. Experience with Adobe InCopy, Asana and PageTurnPro is a plus.
The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about the details, can communicate effectively on multiple platforms, can multitask and manage work on multiple projects at the same time, and likes working in a fast-paced newsroom atmosphere.
A bachelor’s degree is required and two to four years of editing experience is preferred.
