RichmondBizSense.com, a pioneer in daily online local business news, is searching for a savvy reporter to join our thriving newsroom in Richmond, Va. You’ll be joining an exciting new media company with an 11-year track record, experienced leadership and passionate editors and reporters.
Job Overview
The right candidate will be able to produce tightly written, hyperlocal stories per day on a variety of business beats, including real estate, startups and more. A knack for working sources and public records is a must.
Qualifications
We look for three qualities when hiring reporters: a natural curiosity about what makes businesses and business people tick, a proven work ethic and a fierce competitiveness. You don’t need an MBA to be a business reporter, but you must relish breaking a scoop and hate the taste of getting beat by a competitor.
If you are the sort of person who picks up a news tip while on an Uber ride to the airport, while getting your bike tuned or while drinking a pint at the brewery, we want to hear from you.
Other basic qualifications:
– At least 3 years of reporting experience, primarily on hard news (willing to consider less experience for those who impress us)
– Proven ability to dig up stories through old-fashioned source work and documents (new business licenses, legal filings …)
– Clean and crisp writing style
