Rewire News Group seeks a social media producer

Rewire News Group is hiring an innovative Social Media Producer who will work alongside the editorial team in publishing content that meets the highest-quality standards of journalism. To be successful in this position, the Social Media Producer should be a voracious news consumer and expert in social media best practices who is tuned into conversations happening on all social platforms, is comfortable using data to spot content trends as they are happening, can capitalize on breaking news moments, and works well under pressure and collaboratively as part of a team. As part of our editorial team, the Social Media Producer will create, appear in, edit, and promote digital content across all platforms, including video for Instagram and TikTok. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in journalism or a similar space; a strong working knowledge of reproductive rights, health, and justice issues; thrive in a fast-paced news-centric environment; and is a self-starter who can function both independently and as part of the broader team. This position will report to the Director of Social Media, work cross-functionally with departments, and work especially closely with the editorial team on a daily basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor and respond to breaking news moments in our issue spaces across all social platforms;
  • Manage our presence and profile on social channels through creating original content, sharing RNG editorial content, and community engagement;
  • Execute social franchises, tools and tactics, including but not limited to Twitter threads, live-tweeting, Twitter Spaces, video explainers,  and infographics;
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Social Media and Editor-at-Large to launch, manage, and create content for a TikTok account;
  • Work in support of the Director of Social Media to develop and execute a social media strategy that drives growth and engagement goals;
  • Stay informed on news and changing trends, best practices, and tools in social media management;
  • Perform other editorial duties and projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficiency (2-3 years of experience preferred) in use of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and photo/video editing softwares (including Adobe Photoshop and Premiere);
  • Experience with web publishing platforms (including WordPress), social media and audience management platforms (such as Sprout Social);
  • A proven understanding of not just the mechanical tools to manage social platforms like Twitter and Facebook but also a passion for using those tools for meaningful engagement;
  • A sense of humor and ability to use it judiciously through social media;
  • Ability to implement and execute Rewire News Group’s voice across all platforms;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Commitment to learning and professional development;
  • Ability to multitask, work well under pressure, and deftly juggle multiple competing priorities;
  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, as well as take direction and critique—all in a remote environment;
  • A passion for reproductive rights, health, and justice;
  • Willingness to follow and operate within stated Rewire News Group policies

Salary: $60K-65K
