Reuters is seeking an experienced editor to lead the text news file for the Americas on the weekend. The successful candidate will be a member of the Americas Desk leadership team and expected to work a lengthy four-day work week, beginning Friday morning and ending Monday afternoon.
The weekend can often be very busy with news ranging from natural disasters to political upheaval and mega corporate mergers. The weekend editor needs to be versatile to run all types of news, and demonstrate excellent news judgment to prioritize stories and marshal what can often be a skeleton staff across the region.
We’re looking for a dynamic newsroom leader well-versed in our breaking news drill, someone willing to jump in to send an alert or trunk-write a major spot story when needed. The job requires proven story-telling skills and the ability to multitask, collaborate across teams and remain calm under pressure.
As a member of the Americas Desk leadership, the successful candidate will help guide a copy editing team that strives to distinguish our file from that of the competition. The editor must be a strong editor and writer, able to quickly get to the crux of a story, deftly weave in context for a global audience, and craft headlines and leads that grab attention.
The editor must be able to work well with reporters, other editors and Top News to shape and improve story lines. A strong desk has always been central to upholding Reuters’ standards and quality, and the successful candidate will be a champion of these standards.
