Reuters seeks Washington bureau chief

January 23, 2015

Posted by Chris Roush

Reuters is looking for an exceptional editor to lead its Washington bureau and drive coverage of the world’s biggest stories over the next few years. There could hardly be a more exciting time to take the helm of this bureau, which sits at the heart of Reuters global news-gathering network.

Having wound up combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, the United States is engaged in a new war with Islamic State. Elsewhere, its allies are threatened by an assertive China and an aggressive Russia.

The Federal Reserve is considering raising interest rates in the middle of a global economic slowdown. The debate is shifting on Wall Street regulation and shale revolution is changing economic and geopolitical realities. And America will elect a new president in two years amidst a national debate on everything from race to income inequality.

To tell these and other stories, the Washington Bureau Chief will need extraordinary skills as a journalist, from breaking news to long-term investigations, and as an organizer. Deep knowledge of the United States and experience covering big global stories is a must. The ability to open doors in Washington and a background in a real-time news environment would be an advantage. Above all, the bureau chief needs to be an inspiring leader, able to bring out the best in his or her people.

– At least 10 years experience in journalism
– A track record of running large teams
– Global experience and background in real-time news
– Some experience running or working on investigative projects would be an advantage
