Reuters Video News is looking for a multi-skilled video journalist for the Los Angeles bureau.
The successful candidate will be part of dynamic team responsible for covering the entertainment capital of the world as well as one of the busiest regions in the United States.
You will be expected to involve yourself in everything from the Oscars and other high profile showbiz events to celebrity meltdowns and trials, issues of immigration, natural disasters including earthquakes, forest fires and drought; as well tech giants Google, Apple and Facebook, not forgetting sports and a vast array of human interest stories.In addition to strong English language and scripting abilities, a comprehension of Spanish is an asset.
Candidates should be able to shoot and edit their own material. The ability to write and voice broadcast packages and experience in front of camera would be an advantage. Computer literacy is essential, as is a familiarity with filing material from the field.
Working closely with the television team as well as colleagues in Text, Pictures, Reuters TV and Online, the producer will be responsible for planning, co-coordinating and covering news and feature stories for a diverse range of clients. He or she will need to be a proven self-starter with excellent communication skills, a steady temperament and an abiding hunger for news gathering and visual story telling.
The successful candidate must have a global perspective to go with an intimate knowledge of Los Angeles and the greater west coast of the United States and needs to be flexible enough to deal with a fast-moving business which can involve long hours and the need to travel at short notice.
Key duties include:
– Keeping abreast of a varied and always fast-moving news and entertainment file in the region
– Coordinating news coverage and delivery as part of a multi-media team on a daily basis
– Establishing a rapport with colleagues in the bureau across all media
– Expanding the diversity of TV output to include greater News, Life! Sports and Business coverage
– Pro-actively assisting in the rollout of the latest news gathering and production tools
