Reuters seeks top news editor in Washington

Reuters is seeking a dynamic newsroom leader with excellent news judgment, story ideas and rewrite skills to join the core news editing team for the Americas.

Based in Washington, you will be running some of the major stories each day, ensuring that they are reported and written to a high standard, and break new ground wherever possible. You will have the skills to rewrite top stories to the highest quality, and the newsroom credibility to command respect from reporters and editors at all levels.

You will also be helping to shape the file by working with other editors to allocate resources so that we are producing exclusives, insightful analysis, enterprise stories and depth across the file.

Qualifications

You must feel comfortable directing stories about foreign policy one moment and economics or regulatory changes the next. A global perspective is essential as you will often be taking charge of stories that began in Asia or Europe.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
