Reuters is seeking a passionate and skilled reporter for the position of Senior Correspondent covering politics and general news in Southern Africa. The position is demanding and rewarding in equal measure, covering everything from the boardrooms and political backrooms of South Africa, the continent’s most industrialized economy, to the turbulent streets of Zimbabwe, a nation in crisis.
The ideal candidate will have a strong record both on fast breaking news and deeply reported initiative pieces. They will have a knack for developing sources, write with authority and flair, and work closely with TV, pictures and graphics teams to produce compelling multimedia content.
The successful candidate will deliver groundbreaking, insightful coverage of the frequently opaque dealings of South Africa’s governing party, its plans to expropriate land without compensation, a state-wide corruption investigation and the impact of credit downgrades and stubbornly high unemployment ahead of what could be a bruising national election in 2019. They will also become familiar with and generate stories on nine other countries in a diverse region that is undergoing reform and change.
We are looking for a team player who can work effectively with correspondents and stringers across Southern Africa and will contribute to the wider operations of the bureau, from snapping rate announcements to regular slot duties and weekend shifts.
