Reuters is looking for a new bureau chief to run coverage of Russia and its near neighbors, including Ukraine and central Asia.
One of the biggest world stories of the past year, covering Putin’s Russia requires an outstanding journalist who can pick up the reins from Tim Heritage when he finishes his assignment in the summer.
It will be a tough act to follow: Tim led Moscow and Kiev to our global “story of the year” award for 2014.
The job requires a candidate with a nuanced understanding of Russia’s political, economic and corporate landscape and the ability to organize a large team of international and domestic language reporters for a readership ranging from financial traders to large investors and media clients, including Reuters TV.
We need a bureau chief who can balance the pressure for Reuters to break news and be ultra-competitive on timings with the growing demand from clients for journalism of ideas and insight. She or he will understand security requirements in a hostile environment, have a track record of working with pictures and TV and understand the demands of our local business and its clients.
SKILLS
– Proven track record as a newsroom leader, idea generator, writer and editor
– Well organized and able to manage speed, breaking news and insight
– Ability to understand multi-media needs
– Ability to work with a local business, be able to deal with local authorities
– Fluent Russian a strong advantage.
