Reuters seeks Mexico bureau chief

Reuters is looking for a bureau chief for Mexico.

Role Purpose
Leads a bureau’s news file and manages the local budget and staff and their safety and development. A bureau chief leads a bureau (whether city or country’s) news file to ensure it meets company standards for accuracy, speed, impartiality and to the agreed needs of clients.
The bureau chief manages staff across disciplines (and sometimes language) and is regularly involved directly on the news file.
Manages staff safety and career development, and communicates editorial priorities and decides news coverage priorities as aligned with specialist editors and customer needs.

Responsibilities
The bureau chief leads a top quality news file ensuring it meets company standards for accuracy, speed, impartiality and to the agreed needs of clients. Manages a team, often cross specialty and sometimes in different languages, and is regularly involved in the daily news file, whether contributing as a correspondent, reviewing or quality moderating. Produces the best news file with staff safety in mind for potentially hostile situations and within budget.
Serves as a Reuters news representative for any local channel management team, works with client-facing staff to represent news to customers and potential customers and raises the flag for the company at local events or speaks on coverage with external media. Ensures local implementation of direction from regional specialist editors and measures and improves editorial performance in the unit.

Qualifications
Technical / Professional Skills & Competencies
Good people skills are essential to directly manage staff and their safety, working with the business and giving presentations on news when needed for customers.
Local language skills a must.
Budget management required.
Strong journalism skills to coach and train new staff, basic knowledge of all equipment in the bureau including editorial editing systems, multimedia skills such as Audacity for audio and video cameras. Broad business knowledge to explain how editorial fits into the broader Thomson Reuters business.
