Reuters seeks medical news editor

Reuters Health is seeking a medical news editor who can deliver sharp, insightful and engaging health and medical articles to consumers and doctors on very tight deadlines. The editor must know both audiences well.

Key Responsibilities:
– Edit and fact-check a heavy load of stories every day for consumers and medical professionals
– Explain complicated medical research in clear, engaging language, tailored either to lay or professional readers
– Pitch in as needed to support reporters and other editors on the team
– Guide reporters in research and sourcing of stories
– Develop a deep understanding of customers (consumers and doctors) in order to provide the most valuable user experience

Qualifications
– At least 3 to 5 years’ experience editing medical news
– Familiarity with current medical literature in a broad range of fields
– Ability to quickly read and analyze medical journal articles and synthesize the key points
– Familiarity with basic medical statistical methods
– Excellent writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy
– Proven news judgment and analytical abilities
– Ability to prioritize concurrent projects and adhere to challenging deadlines
– Ability to adapt and change quickly to meet the needs of an emerging project
– Ability to analyze and anticipate interests of a targeted audience
