Reuters seeks journalist to oversee North American TV

Reuters is seeking a highly talented journalist to lead the TV operation in North America.

Based in Washington, the North America editor manages staff in three locations in the U.S., and is responsible for coverage in North America and the Caribbean.

We need someone with the vision to restructure the operation, the energy and people skills to lead the team, solid editorial judgment and a clear understanding of what clients want from our U.S. coverage. Awareness of the growing importance of live and online content is important, along with the ability to build strong relationships with colleagues in Text, Pictures and Online. This is one of the most important roles within the Reuters TV operation.

Along with their applications, candidates should include up to 500 words on what their priorities would be in the first six months in the role.

Responsibilities: Give overall direction to coverage of news in North America. Ensure the file meets customer needs and company standards. Lead, manage and motivate a team of journalists within the USA. Discover talent and foster diversity. Drive innovation, generate new ways of working more smartly and using resources more wisely. Work with colleagues to achieve budget targets. Maintain relationships with main US customers and news providers.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
