Reuters LogoReuters is seeking an energetic, enterprising reporter to cover the intersection of finance and technology as a financial technology correspondent.

In more recent years, fintech has become an industry in its own right, with startups from San Francisco to London trying to upend business models of lenders, brokerages, trading firms, investment managers, exchanges, insurers and retail payment systems. Traditional financial firms first dismissed fintech competitors, then feared them, and now they are embracing the changes as a way to produce revenue and cut costs. Meanwhile, some of the bigger, more established fintech firms are starting to face scrutiny from regulators.

The disclosure that a number of banks have been hacked through the SWIFT, the global transaction system, also points to unappreciated risks for established systems and opportunities for new technology.

We want  a journalist who can dive into this fast-developing industry and help readers understand how innovations like Blockchain affect their lives, jobs and investments. The successful candidate will have or be able to quickly develop sources at the front lines of this disruptive change. Strong news judgment and an ability to conceive and articulate smart story ideas are necessary skills.

The successful candidate will also work closely with editors and other reporters to ensure that our breaking news coverage is strong in a fiercely competitive market. Collaboration is a must, since the beat cuts across many others, including finance, cybersecurity and technology. The successful candidate will also be ready to collaborate with editors and reporters in North America, Asia and Europe. He or she will also be expected to ensure that we have developed multimedia plans for our most ambitious stories and projects.

The preferred location for the successful candidate is New York, at the heart of Wall Street and Silicon Alley.
