Reuters seeks editor to run its financial services desk in New York

Reuters is looking for an exceptional person to help run the financial services file in the Americas.

The successful candidate will be responsible for Reuters coverage of the U.S. banking system. She/He will have a deep knowledge of the major U.S. banks and how their trading, lending and advisory activities feed into the wider financial system.

She/He will be able to portray the personalities and strategies that dominate Wall Street and distill complex material into clear stories for a broad audience.

Experience of covering breaking news for a real-time news organization is key as is a background in strong enterprising reporting.

The successful candidate will be leading a high-performing team of New York-based reporters and needs to be able to inspire them to break news and deliver insight on some of the world’s most closely watched institutions.

She/He will drive multi-media story-telling for an expert audience.

Qualifications

§ At least 10 years experience in business journalism

§ Track record of driving ambitious reporting projects

§ Strong leadership skills

§ Proven record of building sources and breaking news

§ Spanish/Portuguese an advantage

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
