We’re looking for an experienced editor to take a leadership position within our fast-paced U.S. markets team in New York. This will be a lead-from-the-front job where you will be expected to help your team source up, break news and write agenda-setting features. You will have a Rolodex of names in at least one of the areas relevant to markets coverage – the investment world, banking world – and the drive and motivation to compete head-to-head with our biggest competitors.
The team is responsible for Reuters’ coverage of the daily activity in U.S. equities, forex, bonds, emerging markets and credit. You will be instrumental in thinking up sharp angles on the stories that make regular appearances on the front of our screens such as: what the yield curve is signaling; when equities will turn bearish and whether there will be dollar intervention? You will be equally comfortable doing any of the following: chatting to the head of a multi-billion-dollar fund about their latest investment thesis; digging through data to work out which funds would be under the most stress in the next market downturn; leading the reporting of an investigative cross-border feature; or presenting your ideas as coherent pitches to our top editors. The ideal candidate will bolster their market expertise with a strong contact list – bankers, traders, hedge fund managers, etc – who can help us break news and drive insightful coverage.
You will be an experienced leader, able to take charge of a team of reporters and work closely with the other editors on the markets and finance team, both in the U.S. and internationally. We need a real team player who will share their resources and collaborate on stories.
Inside the busy New York newsroom, the markets team is the nexus between our coverage of U.S. companies, the banking industry and the U.S. economy. Understanding the myriad ways Corporate America interacts with Wall Street is essential, as is a can-do attitude toward bolstering our coverage of companies. The team generates high-value content, including analyses, Insights, Special Reports and, increasingly, graphics-led stories. The successful candidate must be a proven idea generator and, just as importantly, must demonstrate an ability to foster ideas from the team.
The position reports to the Editor-in-Charge, Americas Markets.
