Reuters seeks economics reporter in Southeast Asia

Reuters is looking for an ambitious, numerate and experienced correspondent to lead economics coverage in Southeast Asia, with a special emphasis on Indonesia, the region’s biggest economy.

Based in Jakarta, the successful applicant will work closely with economics correspondents in the region’s bureaus to strengthen spot coverage and delve deeper into bigger initiative stories that set the agenda.

Southeast Asia is one of the world’s most dynamic regions with a fast-growing middle class and colorful politics. Its social, political and economic trends are often entwined, so the beat offers a range of compelling story opportunities. The ability to both break news and to conceive and execute broader stories is important. An ability to bring stories to life with color and telling real examples is also important.

Qualifications:
– Good numeracy and ability to mine data to find unique stories
– Ability to work in a calm and collegiate way with colleagues on a virtual team
– Proven interest in the beat
– Proven track record of idea generation and delivery of well-reported stories
– Ability to write quick analysis as well as more thought-out pieces.
– Ability to translate nuanced policy decisions into essential reading that goes beyond the day’s headlines.
