Reuters seeks desk editor in New York

July 28, 2015

Posted by Chris Roush

Reuters is looking for a strong writer and editor to join the Americas Desk.

The successful candidate must be an experienced journalist who can tackle stories that span asset classes and who understands the needs of a variety of customers, from Eikon screen clients to media companies in the United States and globally.

Working closely with reporting teams, the Americas Desk runs the biggest spot stories in the region while Top News focuses on initiative. We’re looking for an editor who can shape the file, who is comfortable guiding story discussions in chatrooms and on email, and who can coordinate with photos, graphics, video and online news.

You will be expected to work some weekend and late shifts.

Qualifications

You must have excellent writing as well as copy editing skills as you will likely be called upon to trunk-write some of the biggest stories of the day. You have to be both precise with language and able to express complex ideas for niche and general audiences. You must be able to speedily edit copy while enforcing Reuters standards and offering suggestions for improvements in the next updates.

The successful candidate should be calm under pressure and have a strong ability to multitask, as engaged with reporters, editors and bureau chiefs as with the copy itself. Experience with big political and general stories would be ideal. A strong understanding of what our global customers need is essential.
