Reuters seeks deputy bureau chief in Moscow

Reuters is looking for a first-rate journalist with bags of energy to help lead our coverage of Russia and its near neighbors.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to prove they have what it takes to cover one of the world’s biggest stories. The deputy bureau chief’s job will be all about the file.

Whoever does this job will be expected to jump on the biggest news story of the day to make sure we do it better and faster than our competitors, to come up with important, impactful stories of their own and to collaborate with colleagues to produce agenda-setting journalism.

The deputy bureau chief will be expected to have a firm grasp on politics, the economy and the corporate world. They must have a nuanced understanding of how Russia and the former Soviet Union operate.

They may be asked to travel occasionally to cover the big stories. They should inspire other reporters by their leadership and example. The successful candidate will work closely with the bureau chief, and run the office when the bureau chief is away.

They will have to perform at a high level under sometimes stressful conditions.

Our coverage of the Kremlin’s intervention in Ukraine won our global “story of the year” award for 2014. The deputy bureau chief will play a central role in making sure that we maintain and build on this excellence.
