Reuters is looking for a seasoned economic and financial graphics specialist to create news-driven data visualizations.
Candidates should have a reporter’s instinct for finding the stories embedded in data and the design skills to surface them in a meaningful way. This work will be featured on Reuters.com and Eikon, Thomson Reuters’ premium desktop product for the financial industry.
This position reports to the Deputy Head of Graphics.
Qualifications
– At least 15 years’ experience in a newsroom as a graphics editor with a focus on financial and economic coverage.
– Candidates must have diverse and deep knowledge of global economics and trade, financial markets, oil fundamentals, and macroeconomic data as well as the design skills to represent these ideas visually.
– A portfolio that demonstrates exceptional storytelling skills in both breaking news and feature work. Priority will be placed on candidates with experience covering stories such as national financial crises, including the U.S. housing bust, the Great Recession and recovery, and the Euro zone debt crisis.
– The ability to collaborate with others is essential. The job requires working with interactive developers in New York, graphics colleagues in London and Singapore, and text reporters around the world.
– An understanding of journalistic style and grammar is required.
– Technical mastery with design applications such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop is required; proficiency with generating content in HTML5/CSS is essential.
– Advanced skills using Microsoft Excel are required. Familiarity with Microsoft Access is desirable.
– Familiarity with Thomson Reuters products such as Datastream and Eikon is highly desirable.
