Reuters seeks data journalist in New York

Reuters is looking for a reporter skilled in data analysis and multi-media storytelling and with proven ability to deliver bold enterprise reporting.

You must enjoy and excel at collaboration, have a sixth-sense for finding stories that matter and demonstrate aptitude in creative story-telling through video, audio, animation and other multi-media techniques.

This is a job for someone who is compulsive about fairness and accuracy, learns new skills quickly and brims with ideas about how data could inform stories. This reporter will be a member of our data journalism team, based in New York City.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have previous full-time reporting experience, as well as skills in Microsoft Excel, SQL, video and audio production.

Pluses: should have enough programming skills to reshape/analyze difficult data sets; R or other open-source statistical programming skills; GIS

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
