Reuters is seeking a talented chief correspondent to help lead our news coverage out of Brazil.
The chief correspondent will be the lead reporter on many of the country’s top stories, focusing on fast and analytical spot news coverage and enterprising journalism that distinguishes Reuters from all competitors.
The range of stories is vast so the chief correspondent will be expected to focus on those where Reuters can dominate and help lead the effort. She or he will have a proven record of strong spot news coverage, deep reporting and developing great sources. She or he will be back up the bureau chief and be flexible enough to move across the file to reinforce coverage of the main stories at any given time while finding the space to work on creative and ambitious stories under her or his own byline.
The Brazil file crosses all asset classes. It is the world’s seventh largest economy and a major supplier of agricultural goods, minerals and oil. It is also home to fascinating financial and company news sagas (some a success, others a disaster), vibrant politics and always plenty of corruption scandals, most recently the one roiling state-run oil firm Petrobras and others linked to FIFA. And you can add to that next year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Ability to generate smart and incisive story ideas across the news file.
