Reuters seeks breaking news correspondents in DC

Reuters is seeking several Breaking News Correspondents to join its U.S.-Canada Breaking News team. The team is in charge of producing fast and sharp coverage of major news stories in the United States and Canada for Reuters’ global audience of decision makers in business, media and politics.

The team will monitor a wide range of live events and feeds, including federal and state governments, news conferences, TV broadcasts, Twitter and other social media feeds to send headlines and write updates of major stories. It will also work closely with multimedia reporting teams in Washington, New York and bureaus across the United States and Canada.

About the Role

As a Breaking News Correspondent, you will:

  • Snap news clearly, accurately and quickly; and write quick urgents and updates on breaking news stories
  • Work in a very fast-paced environment to deliver the news first to Reuters subscribers
  • Consolidate Reuters reputation as the world’s most influential news agency

About You

As a Breaking News Correspondent, you will likely have:

  • A strong understanding of the major issues in politics, the economy and society
  • An ability to work under pressure
  • Strong writing skills

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
