Reuters seeks a driven reporter to join its Chicago agriculture team.
With President Trump’s trade wars upending the farm economy ahead of the 2020 election, there has never been a more exciting time to dive into agriculture and the companies that help feed the world’s growing population.
The right candidate will be equally comfortable with deep investigative reporting and writing on price movements in soybeans, corn and livestock markets. The job involves ample opportunity to travel in the U.S. farm belt and work closely with reporters in China, Europe and Latin America.
Agriculture is crucial to Reuters’ news mission and readership and we are committed to continuing to win stories on changing global trade flows and the business of buying and selling grain. The reporter must be comfortable with multimedia storytelling to bring stories alive. The job includes opportunities to write on other topics in Reuters’ largest Midwest bureau.
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
- A proven track record developing deep sources, breaking news, reporting and writing long-form stories
- A minimum of four years of experience in journalism
- Strong writing and organizational skills, coupled with experience handling and contributing to stories in real time
- The ability to clearly explain complex subjects to a wide audience as well as to the professional reader

- Proven ability to work closely and collaboratively as part of a diverse team spanning regions
