Reuters seeks a Swiss financial correspondent

Reuters is seeking an experienced journalist with strong news judgment, a knack for developing sources and the ambition to dig deep and generate exclusives about an industry closely watched by our readers at the heart of global finance.

In this position you will generate agenda-setting coverage of the Swiss banking sector and the world’s largest private wealth centre, including market leader UBS. You will work independently on story ideas around the Swiss financial sector and its movers and shakers, in cooperation with an experienced, dynamic, and international team in Zurich as well as the wider Reuters global finance team. Coverage will also encompass M&A.

About the Role

As Swiss Finance Correspondent at Reuters, you will:

  • Build strong sources to help break news and generate agenda-setting exclusives
  • Provide a steady stream of initiative and deeply reported stories that showcase your expertise
  • Work closely with the wider Reuters financial team on sector and M&A stories
  • Produce engaging copy, including using graphics and data, for our global media and financial readers
  • Work with visual colleagues to help complement the multimedia file
  • Cover major breaking news outside the main beat as part of shared bureau duties
  • Report to the Chief Correspondent, Switzerland and Austria.

About You

You’re a fit for the role of Swiss Finance Correspondent at Reuters, if you have:

  • A passion for breaking news and developing sources
  • Excellent news judgment, with focus on big stories and wider context
  • Five years of experience in reporting on finance and banking
  • A knack for working as part of a team across borders, language and media
  • Ability to work under pressure at a news wire, where speed, accuracy and balance are essential
  • Excellent written English and fluent German
  • Working knowledge of French and/or Italian would be useful
