May 14, 2025

Posted by Chris Roush

Reuters is seeking a skilled and ambitious U.S.-based correspondent to lead coverage on the intersection of race, justice, gender and government. This journalist will pursue stories of global significance that will explore how policy decisions and programs impact communities across the country — and the drivers, or people, behind those decisions. As a U.S.-based correspondent on the global race and justice team, you will build a body of work across the Reuters news file – from politics and public policy to criminal justice, policing, health, economics and financial markets and more.

The successful candidate will pair investigative rigor with narrative reporting, exposing inequities while centering voices and perspectives of impacted communities. Reporting to the Global Race and Justice Editor, you will help the team produce exclusive news, compelling human-interest stories and deeply reported, revelatory and agenda-setting enterprise and investigative stories. This individual will work closely with colleagues around the world.

This role will be based in Washington D.C. A willingness to travel is necessary.

About the Role

As our U.S. Race and Justice Correspondent you will:

  • Cover the intersection of race, policy and power, while showing real-life impact
  • Break exclusive stories and deliver enterprise reporting
  • Build diverse network of sources within federal agencies, policymakers, civil rights organizations and communities to produce timely, exclusive and impactful stories.
  • Have a collaborative spirit, generate ambitious ideas and work closely with visuals, graphics, audio, digital and social colleagues to pursue innovative and inclusive stories in multiple formats
  • Have a keen interest in using data and FOIA/records requests to inform your storytelling and a strong record of accountability journalism.

About You

To be our U.S. Race and Justice Correspondent, you will likely:

  • Be a self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills, solid news judgement and have the ability to write cleanly and quickly
  • Have exceptional news judgment, a sound understanding of reader and client needs, and the ability to set priorities with a global perspective
  • Have at least 7-10 years reporting experience that includes published examples of investigative work
  • Have some experience with FOIA or similar records requests and analysis
