Reuters is looking for a dynamic, enterprising Consumer Goods & Retail Correspondent to join our busy New York team and drive agenda‑setting coverage of some of the world’s most influential companies.
This is a high‑profile role on one of our most competitive beats, spanning retail, apparel, luxury and the global consumer‑goods industry.
We are looking for an experienced journalist who can come up with distinctive story ideas and knows how to report them out, both independently and in collaboration with other team members in the U.S. and globally.
The successful candidate is a self-starter who thrives on breaking market‑moving exclusives, spots shifts in consumer behavior before they show up in the data, and delivers ambitious, deeply reported initiatives that illuminate how global brands shape the economy and everyday life.
A sharp grasp of the business models and strategies of major U.S. consumer and retail companies, combined with a proven track record in source-building, are essential to be successful in the role.
About The Role As a U.S. Retail Correspondent, you will:
- Break exclusive stories on strategy, supply‑chain decisions, pricing moves, M&A activity and executive shake‑ups across major consumer‑goods and retail companies.
- Deliver insightful enterprise reporting that connects corporate actions to broader trends in consumer spending, geopolitics, trade and regulation.
- Build and sustain a strong network of senior executives, brand managers, analysts, investors, supply‑chain specialists and policymakers.
- Produce fast, accurate spot news under tight deadlines while developing distinctive medium‑ and long‑term projects.
- Collaborate across Reuters’ business, markets, global industries and consumer teams to strengthen stories with cross‑border insight and financial depth.
- Interpret earnings, regulatory filings, economic data and market signals to produce authoritative, high‑impact journalism.
About You To be our U.S. Retail Correspondent, you are likely to have:
- At least five years of reporting experience, preferably in business, corporate or financial journalism.
- A proven track record of scoops, strong sourcing and ambitious enterprise work.
- An energetic, curious and highly enterprising reporter who brings fresh ideas every day.
- Strong understanding of how multinational consumer‑goods companies operate — from procurement and manufacturing to pricing, distribution, marketing and supply chain.
- Ability to write clearly, quickly and analytically for a global audience.
- Comfort working with data, financial reports and economic indicators.
- A collaborative mindset and willingness to work closely with colleagues across desks and time zones.
- Candidate must be able to live and work in the United States.
