Reuters seeks a climate and environment correspondent in London

Reuters News is seeking an experienced Climate & Environment Correspondent, to be based in Europe.

This journalist will be part of our Global Climate & Environment Team tasked with bringing scientific and economic understanding to everyday stories about extreme weather, climate research, global business and climate diplomacy. They will have a sophisticated understanding of the science as well as the economics, politics, demographics and cross-border issues on the beat.

When environmental news is breaking in the world, this reporter will be ready to jump in with smart stories that help to explain the environmental or climate connections. This reporter will be a creative self-starter, able to generate story ideas and see them through to completion. They will be an intrepid digger – ready to travel and skilled in interviewing sources and in reporting from the field. They will be comfortable assessing scientific studies, and will have a clear and firm commitment to the journalistic mission.

This job is listed as London, but other locations in Europe will be considered.

As a Climate & Environment Correspondent at Reuters, you will:

  • Monitor and report on climate and environmental news, including the latest in scientific research and discovery.
  • Generate feature ideas and work on enterprise and multimedia projects around climate and environment issues, translating and humanizing technical information to grab a general audience.
  • Have day-to-day collaboration with Climate & Environment team colleagues, and frequent work with non-specialist correspondents in all formats around the world.
  • Occasionally help to represent Reuters’ Climate & Environment coverage through public appearances on panels, at conferences, and more.

To be our Climate & Environment Correspondent, you will likely have:

  • At least five years of experience reporting on climate change and other environmental issues.
  • The ability to write quickly and accurately under deadline pressure.
  • Familiarity with both climate and environmental science, and with the history of global climate discussions.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce explanatory or distinctive long-form stories.
  • Strong inter-personal skills and the ability to work closely with a variety of collaborators.
  • Comfort with prioritizing tasks and juggling many projects at once, with varying deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel and to work from the field.
  • Outstanding written English.
  • Some Multimedia skills and knowledge of Visual storytelling.
