Reuters’ IFR New York seeks credit reporter

IFR New York is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic reporter to join its credit team, covering the corporate bond market, both investment-grade and high-yield.

The successful candidate will be expected to break news, spot fresh trends and generate regular weekly feature stories on key trends in the debt capital markets that set us apart from our rivals. To achieve this, the successful candidate will cultivate and maintain contacts with key players and decision-makers in the industry including investment banking and capital markets, as well as with borrowers, lawyers, investors and other professionals.

He/she will work with fellow correspondents across IFR and Reuters globally in the Americas, Europe and Asia to write stories for IFR Markets, IFR Magazine and the Reuters newswire. Attention to detail, excellent writing skills, ability to prioritize stories under pressure and a track record in breaking news are required.

Essential day-to-day responsibilities may include:

First rate news judgment and sourcing
Proven ability to break stories, and to write quickly and accurately
Keeping IFR ahead on primary market bond issuance
Breaking news on financing for M&A
Ability to explain complex markets to a wide business audience
Writing weekly features that are well-written and sourced
Experience using data and analytical tools to highlight trends

Education:

At least three to four years experience in financial markets reporting, preferably debt capital markets.
B.A/ B.S. preferred

Skills:

Deep established contact list or ability to build relationships in the markets
High standards of accuracy
Awareness of clients’ news needs
