Reuters Breakingviews seeks global economics editor

Global Economics Editor, Reuters Breakingviews 

We are willing to consider both New York and London as locations for this key position.

We’re looking for a world-class economics columnist to lead our coverage of central banks and markets.

This is a unique opportunity to set the agenda on macroeconomic policy and its interaction with financial markets as part of Breakingviews and the wider Reuters network. Working closely with the Global Editor, you will be involved in our most high-profile initiatives including our daily flagship column, The Big View, our podcasts, events, and much more.

You must have razor-sharp analytical skills, a deep knowledge of economic theory and policy, a proven track record of writing about economics and markets at the highest level, and an established base of senior contacts among policymakers and money managers. Above all, you must possess the ability to slice through complex concepts to deliver lively and engaging arguments to a sophisticated audience.

About the Role

As Global Economics Editor, Reuters Breakingviews you will:

  • Research and write punchy and original views on economics and markets that set the agenda for our global customers.
  • Develop and maintain contacts with senior policymakers, investors and economic thinkers.
  • Work with the Breakingviews team of editors and columnists – and Reuters’ global network – to shape coverage of economics and markets, develop ideas, and knit together cross-border themes.
  • Present your ideas in fresh and engaging ways across all forms of media.

About You

You’re a fit for the role of Global Economics Editor, Reuters Breakingviews if you have:

  • A proven understanding of global economic policy and its interaction with financial markets.
  • A track record of delivering strong, well-argued opinions to tight deadlines.
  • A base of high-level contacts among central bankers and policymakers, investors and other influential thinkers.
  • Experience of presenting your views to a sophisticated financial audience.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
