Restoration NewsMedia seeks an editor

Restoration NewsMedia is seeking an experienced journalist to serve as editor of two community newspapers, The Wake Weekly in Wake Forest and The Butner-Creedmoor News in Creedmoor. Each paper publishes daily content online and has a weekly print edition.

The editor will be a player-coach who can set the tone for our newsrooms by pitching in with writing and reporting duties while mentoring reporters and making their work shine. We want someone who has the chops to tackle complex investigative and enterprise stories along with a genuine passion for community news. If you’re a good multitasker who can balance long-term projects with daily duties and are someone who thrives on deadline pressure, we’re interested in talking to you.

This journalist will work to cultivate stringers and solicit news submissions from government agencies and nonprofits. The editor should be comfortable representing both newspapers in their communities and welcome opportunities to address civic clubs and facilitate panel discussions, candidate forums and other public-interest events.

The successful candidate will be a skilled writer who prizes precision and clarity. Our next editor should have a working knowledge of AP style, open government issues and basic libel and copyright law, along with leadership experience in the news industry. Familiarity with online content management systems, photography and video are a plus. The position is ideal for a senior reporter or midlevel editor looking to take on more responsibility.

Page design experience isn’t necessary, as our media services team handles pagination for both publications.

Restoration NewsMedia is a family-owned company working to restore and preserve local newspapers. To apply, send a letter of interest, a resume and 3-5 work samples to Corey Friedman at cfriedman@restorationnewsmedia.com. No phone calls, please.
