The Register Guard, a Gatehouse newspaper in Eugene, Oregon, is seeking an experienced reporter to cover innovation. Lane County is home to vibrant, growing technology, business, health care and higher education communities that lead their respective industries in the development of new products and services as well as research and making of policy.
We’re seeking a curious, enterprising Individual with the ability to spot innovation in the making and who is comfortable reporting on innovation in all its aspects from the invention of robotic sorters for recycling to the development of climate change policy, the manufacturing of electric cars, invention of new systems for elections and more.
This reporter would be responsible for developing sources across varying sectors from education to technology, food service, manufacturing, agriculture, science, education and more to offer a variety of stories that inform our readers about what is happening in their community and the resulting impact locally and beyond.
The ability to breakdown complicated topics into clear, concise explanatory language as well as tell stories through a variety of media and on multiple platforms is prized in this position. Excellent reporting and writing skills, attention to detail and demonstrated knowledge of how to use social media to engage with audiences and extend the reach of reporting is necessary.
Schedule will vary according to workload; night and weekend work may be required. Applicants should have a degree in journalism or related field of study or equivalent work experience.
