Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty seeks a multimedia editor (video producer)

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty is searching for a talented Multimedia Editor (Video Producer) to create impactful videos for our English Central Newsroom. Working out of our Washington D.C. bureau, you will use video to expertly tie sight and sound together in order to tell cohesive and impactful stories for our websites, television programs, and socials. Your production will range from short stories to long-form documentaries produced from the field using excellent script-writing skills and editing ability, as well as established knowledge of RFE/RL’s coverage regions. You will work closely with our staff in Prague and journalists across our many bureaus to provide support and feedback in order to elevate production quality and ensure editorial values.

What you’ll accomplish:

  • Write video scripts that adapt and condense the best news, current affairs, and features reporting from RFE/RL’s 27 language services, tailoring the content for an international English-speaking audience. Strong visual story-telling skills are required.
  • Video Editing: You will be cutting your own reports on Adobe Premiere Pro with video material provided by RFE/RL’s language services.  Strong video editing skills are required for this job and experience with Adobe Premiere Pro or other editing platforms is required.
  • Create impactful videos in multiple formats including: short social media videosnarrated feature reportsnews reports for social media, and long-form reports and documentaries. 
  • Be able to effectively manage long-form video and field production.
  • Collaborate with internal Central Newsroom colleagues to create multimedia packages for joint broadcast/web use.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on the production to post-production process, providing stakeholders with editorial guidance and feedback.
  • Provide feedback and training to video journalists to improve company standards and cross-department cooperation.
  • Provide insightful editorial direction to technical production staff and journalists in the field at all stages of production.

What you bring:

  • 5+ years experience in digital video editing for a media organization
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, film studies or relevant field
  • Familiarity with editing software packages: Adobe Premiere (Adobe Creative Suite 6) preferred
  • Excellent video and photo shooting skills, with the ability to compose introductions and captions for web-based photo galleries
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and tell high-impact stories on a variety of multimedia platforms
  • Broad knowledge of international events and politics and the ongoing situations in RFE/RL’s target countries
  • Strong interpersonal skills needed to build positive relationships within RFE/RL and outside broadcasters
  • Passion for high impact stories and a strong commitment to RFE/RL’s audience
  • Native level English speaker
