PublicSource is seeking an audience growth & engagement producer to join our nonprofit news team in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The person in this role will be charged with representing PublicSource online and in the community. We’re looking for someone who will devote themselves to tapping into the information needs and interests of residents of the Pittsburgh region.
We are a collaborative newsroom dedicated to facts, excellence, diverse voices and the pursuit of transparency.
Responsibilities:
Social media: regular posting Monday-Friday; assisting reporters on promoting their stories; contributing to special promotion plans; social listening for potential story ideas to feed to reporters/editors as well as monitoring/responding to comments and questions; staying atop different platforms’ trends and encouraging experimentation.
Newsletter production/features: drafting 3-4 newsletters a week, collaborating with others on brainstorming and executing newsletter list growth strategies (e.g. website call-to-action management).
SEO: Checking stories for SEO considerations; helping to grow our newsroom’s understanding of SEO concepts in general.
Events: participating, planning and sometimes leading how we show up at our own events (virtual or in person) and at other community events.
Suggesting and researching new ways to attract or engage readers.
Participating in staff meetings, professional development and all-team initiatives.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with diverse collaborators. Most, if not all of these duties, are in collaboration with others on the team. The audience growth & engagement producer will report to the creative director and will have weekly meetings to set an agenda. Close collaboration with the leadership team and newsroom colleagues will be expected as well.
Requirements:
PublicSource is seeking candidates with two to three years of related experience, preferably in a newsroom, but we’re open to applications from people interested in getting into journalism. Entry-level candidates will be considered.
Finalists for the position will be asked to craft a promotion plan and draft social media posts and will be paid for the time spent on the task.
The salary range for this position is $43,000-$47,000, commensurate with experience and skills.
PublicSource has an office in Pittsburgh and operates in a hybrid work environment.
