Protocol seeks an enterprise infrastructure reporter

Protocol is seeking a reporter who can break news and tell original, inside stories about the world of enterprise computing infrastructure.

A once-in-a-generation shift in the way companies purchase, consume and think about enterprise technology is well underway thanks to the rise of cloud computing. But this story is far from finished, as hybrid cloud strategies continue to develop, edge computing starts to make more sense and serverless computing matures.

Enterprise computing infrastructure is the backbone of the modern economy. At Protocol, we are determined to cover this vital tech sector with stories, scoops and original insights that cut through the marketing jargon and resonate with a broad audience.

What You’ll Need:

We’re not looking for reporters to summarize what others have already reported; we’re looking for reporters who can consistently break news that other reporters have to follow. Our ideal candidates are smart, well-sourced and have a knack for finding out what’s happening as well as explaining what it means and why it matters to a savvy and knowledgeable audience.

Candidates should be familiar with cloud and enterprise technology topics from basic compute and storage to Kubernetes and microservices, and comfortable discussing those topics with software developers, engineers and business leaders. We have a strong preference for candidates with 2+ years of experience writing about enterprise technology. The beat will focus on the Big Three cloud providers, traditional infrastructure vendors, chips and infrastructure-management software.

Location: We prefer candidates in the San Francisco, New York and Washington, D.C. areas but are open to other locations as well.
