Protocol seeks a financial technology reporter

Protocol is hiring a reporter to cover the world of financial technology, including payment systems, financial back-end systems, transaction management, trading, blockchain and the regulations that govern that world. We’re looking for someone who will understand the role that some of the biggest tech companies (Facebook, Apple, Google, etc.) play and hope to play in the world of payments, as well as the upcoming players looking to disrupt the banking industry.

Our ideal candidates have a knack for finding out what’s happening in the world of technology and explaining what it means and why it matters to a savvy audience; are capable of producing scoops, daily news and enterprise stories; and have a solid understanding of financial markets and technology and are well-sourced in the world of fintech.

We prefer that this position is located in New York, but we welcome applications from candidates living in other locations as well.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
