Prairie Business Magazine seeks editor

Prairie Business is seeking its next editor — one who can continue the magazine’s tradition of excellent business reporting of the Dakotas and Minnesota. This glossy magazine, with a circulation of 12,000, is affiliated with the Grand Forks Herald and Forum Communications. Its bread-and-butter is stories about business news, trends and people.

The editor oversees one reporter, along with freelance writers and columnists, while working throughout the month with design staff to ensure vibrant design and readability. This is a full-time position.

Collaboration with others is a must. That includes advertising staff, the magazine’s newspaper affiliate and the parent company.

Forum Communications is a family-owned company. It is a great place to work and is dedicated to creating a great culture and work environment.

Responsibilities include:

– Write and assign stories on businesses, businesspeople and the business climate in North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota.

– Oversee all submitted material, ranging from columns to photographs.

– Edit all stories and columns.

– Occasionally work and collaborate with employees of the magazine’s sister company, the Grand Forks Herald.

– Supervise one reporter.

– Work with graphic designers on the layout of the monthly magazine.

– Make recommendations for annual departmental budget.

– Monitor and control budget throughout the year.

– Work collaboratively with news, advertising and circulation staff.

– Work closely with sources to develop topical, timely stories that are relevant to the region.

– Represent the magazine at community events.

-Oversee the Prairie Business website.

– Oversee all duties associated with various promotions throughout the year, including “50 Best Places to Work,” “40 Under 40,” and “25 Women in Business.”

Application deadline is Sept. 8.
